Privacy Policy

Version: September 26, 2026 (2026-09-26.2)

1. Who is responsible (data controller)

The controller of the personal data processed on the Platform is SELVARATNAM Kandeepan (Entrepreneur individuel (EI) — micro-entreprise), SIRET 13045747600013, A25 - 4 Rue Gisèle Halimi , 95140 Garges-lès-Gonesse , France. Contact for any data-protection question: contact@matrimony.fr. Full details: Legal Notice.

2. Scope

This policy applies to matrimony.fr and its regional and language subdomains. Third-party sites we link to have their own policies.

3. Data we process

Account: email address and name (from Google sign-in, or the email you use for a sign-in link), language, login dates.
Profile: first and last name, date of birth and age, gender, height, complexion, marital status, education, occupation, income range, country/region/city (and approximate map coordinates if you use the place search), family details, expectations, photos, phone and WhatsApp numbers.
Horoscope: birth date, time and place, rasi, nakshatra, padam, lagnam, dosham details.
Religion and caste/community: only if you give explicit consent (see below).
Messages and support: messages you send us and our replies.
Safety: blocks and reports.
Contact access and unlocks: access granted by an administrator, contacts you unlocked, and — when enabled — a log of contact reveals (date, and IP address/device type).
Wallet and payments: points ledger, payment amount, status and Stripe references. We never receive card numbers or security codes.
Referrals and promotions: referral codes, qualifying events, promotion redemptions.
Consent and acceptance records: which terms or consent you accepted, which version, when, with IP address and browser type.
Technical and security data: IP address, browser/device information, login attempts and security alerts, email delivery logs.
Cookies and local storage: see Cookie Policy.

4. Religion, caste/community and horoscope

Religious beliefs are a special category of personal data (Article 9 GDPR). Caste or community information can reveal religious beliefs or ethnic origin, so we protect it in the same way. We process these fields only with your explicit consent, given by ticking a separate box in the profile form (never pre-ticked, not linked to anything else) and recorded with its version and date. Without that consent, the fields are not saved. Where you consent, they are used for your profile display and for matching, and are shown on your profile page — which anyone can view, including search engines. You can withdraw consent at any time by unticking the box in your profile: the fields are then cleared. Withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before it. Horoscope details are not a special category in themselves; we use them only for your profile and for compatibility features.

5. Matrimonial contract, signature evidence and annex

When you sign your matrimonial contract we keep: the exact text of the contract and its annexes as shown to you, their SHA-256 fingerprint, the name you typed, the date and time of signature (Paris time), your IP address and browser, the dates calculated for your seven-day and withdrawal periods, and a history of contract events (for example renunciation, withdrawal or termination requests and how they were handled). The annex contains the partner preferences you saved; religion and community preferences are included only if you gave the separate sensitive-data consent. Purposes: concluding and performing the contract, and proving it in case of dispute (legal bases: performance of the contract and our legal obligations; legitimate interest for evidence). This evidence is kept for the duration of the contract and afterwards for as long as it may be needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, then deleted. If we ask for your specific agreement to the publication of your profile, we record your answer, the wording version and the date.

6. Purposes and legal bases

Providing the service (account, profile, search, matching, compatibility, contact access, wallet, points purchases and unlocks) — performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Religion and caste/community — your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a) and 6(1)(a)).
Accounting and payment records — legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
Security, fraud prevention, moderation, blocking/reporting, logs, proof of acceptances — our legitimate interests in keeping the Platform safe and being able to prove what was agreed (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Service and notification emails (for example new-match alerts or reminders) — our legitimate interest in running the service; you can switch optional emails off in your email preferences or with the link in each email.

7. Who can see your information

Public profile page (visible to anyone once your profile is approved, including search engines): first and last name, age, city/region/country, education, occupation, height, complexion, marital status, expectations, rasi/nakshatra/dosham, and — only if you consented — religion and caste/community. Photos appear only if you mark them public.
Protected: phone and WhatsApp numbers are shown only to members who have admin-granted Contact Access or who unlocked your profile with points; your login email address is never shown to members; private photos and full family details are visible to administrators only.
Administrators can see all profile data in order to review and moderate profiles and handle requests.

8. Service providers and other recipients

We use service providers (processors) that act on our instructions: our hosting provider (named in the Legal Notice), Brevo (sending emails), Google (Google sign-in; web fonts loaded from Google servers, which see your IP address), Firebase / Google (only if the email-link sign-in via Firebase is enabled) and, when purchases are open, Stripe (payment processing). If you use a WhatsApp link, your message is handled by WhatsApp under its own terms. We may disclose data to authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell your personal data.

9. Transfers outside the EEA

Some providers (for example Google or Stripe) may process data outside the European Economic Area. Such transfers rely on safeguards recognised by the GDPR, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

10. How long we keep data

Profile, photos, horoscope: while your profile exists; deleting the profile removes it from the site and deletes its photos and horoscope details.
Account data: until you ask us to close your account.
Messages and support requests: while needed to handle them and while your account exists, unless you ask us to delete them and no legal obligation prevents it.
Wallet ledger, unlock and contact-access history: kept with your account, because they record what you paid for and used.
Payment and accounting records: for the periods required by French commercial and tax law — for example, the Code de commerce (art. L123-22) requires accounting documents and supporting documents to be kept for ten years.
Consent and acceptance records: as long as needed to prove consent or acceptance, including after a withdrawal.
Security logs: for a limited period proportionate to their security purpose.
Stripe keeps its own payment records under its own policy.

11. Your rights

You can ask for access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction, objection to processing based on legitimate interests, and a portable copy of the data you provided; you can withdraw consent at any time; under French law you can also give instructions about your data after your death. Much can be done directly in your dashboard (edit or delete your profile, email preferences). Otherwise write to contact@matrimony.fr or use the contact form; we may ask you to confirm your identity. We answer within one month, which may be extended in complex cases as the GDPR allows.

12. Complaints to the supervisory authority

You can lodge a complaint with the CNIL (www.cnil.fr) or with the supervisory authority of your country of residence.

13. Security

We use HTTPS, secure sessions, prepared database queries, CSRF protection, rate limiting and restricted admin access. Payments are handled on Stripe's hosted page. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Adults only

The Platform is for adults aged 18 or over. We delete data we learn was provided by or about a minor.

15. Automated features

Compatibility scores and the optional Match Rank are calculated automatically to suggest and order profiles. They do not produce legal or similarly significant effects: you can still search and view profiles yourself, and the decisions are yours.

16. Changes to this policy

The version date at the top shows the current version. Material changes will be announced on the Platform or by email.
